Wash your greens this week!! The arugula and kale were NOT washed at the farm this week. We do not have running water at our packhouse when the temperature is below freezing. Wash just prior to use. I find the best way to wash greens is to fill a large pot or bowl with cold water, add a handful or two of greens, vigorously swish in the water, then drain. This is where a greens spinner comes in handy. I have this one in the house and I love it. Your roots (rutabaga, celeriac, radishes, carrots, and turnips) will store for quite some time with proper storage; add paper towels to bags to absorb excess moisture. Do not store your onions with our potatoes the gas released will cause your potatoes to sprout.
You should be familiar with the veggies this week. The one new item is Garlic Powder. We peel, chop, and dehydrate the cloves then grind to a powder. We find that this powder is much stronger than typical garlic powder in the store. We hope that you enjoy it!! I know that we couldn’t survive without it.
We hope that you had a fantastic feast for Thanksgiving. We had several sides on our menu this year (Roasted butternut with cranberries and red onion, mashed potatoes, mashed rutabaga and turnip, scalloped potato, broccoli casserole, and stewed romano beans). The boys were all here and we had a great time hanging out with them.

FARM NEWS: Deliveries are done for the season: The next few weeks will be filled with discussion and planning for next spring. We discuss each crop and decide what we need to improve, change, or keep the same. We go over spacing, harvest, storage, variety, member feedback, required labor, flavor, pests, disease, and seasonal availability within our CSA season. This is also the time when we begin our Organic Certification renewal application. Our seed catalogs are here…aka Farmer Porn. Our minds are already into next spring and summer with visions of a bountiful harvest for our members. New Hoop House construction: This is still an ongoing process. Joe has made progress and completed the end walls as well as corner plastic. We are hopeful that we can get the end wall plastic on Wednesday and the large plastic on Thursday. Weather permitting and fingers crossed!! We are adding this to our spring planting plan.
2022 CSA Membership – 5 months (20 weeks)
We are extremely grateful for the continued support that we have received. We offer a $50 discount to CSA members that commit to the season early because it aids us with planning for the season. We can also take advantage of some early payment discounts on supplies. These upfront dollars are necessary for us to purchase supplies and keep the farm running. Our farm is solely funded by 100 CSA Memberships. The CSA share has gone up a few dollars for each week of produce received to help cover our increased expenses. We always strive to provide you with an abundance of high-quality nutritious produce. Thank you for allowing us to grow with you.
Your CSA Share is so much more than just veggies. The benefits of membership are:
- weekly organic seasonal vegetables harvested on our farm
- the opportunity to invest in your local agricultural economy
- the knowledge of where and how your food is grown
- having a relationship with your farmers
- a chance to connect and learn from fellow CSA members
