From the field

We made great progress on the high tunnel construction and have all of the hoops up with some of the top bracing in place. There is still quite a bit to complete before the cold weather arrives. We need to complete all wind bracing, construct the end walls and cover in plastic. Come see it Saturday!

The regular CSA season is coming to an end the last week of October. Our annual Gratitude Gathering is in just a few weeks. This is the final event on the farm for the season. We hope you can join us and your fellow CSA community members at the farm. We are very grateful for all of our CSA members. Many of you have become family to us. This was our 20th growing season, and we wouldn’t still be here without your support and investment in our farm.

Only current CSA members have the opportunity to join our CSA Extension. Shares are limited and available for purchase in early October. We will have more details about what will be offered for those 4 weeks in later newsletters. The CSA Extension starts immediately after the regular season ends and skips Thanksgiving week. The weeks of delivery include 11/4-12/4. Some adjustments may be made to delivery dates and times with advance notice. We will have to wait and see who joins and where their delivery location is before making any adjustments if necessary. Cost $150 – Cash, Check, or Venmo (Credit Cards will include a $5.50 processing fee)

Quick Tips:

Broccoli – We do recommend soaking your broccoli to dislodge any pests. These are organic – no pesticides! Room temperature water with a good amount of salt or 1/3 cup white vinegar to 2 1/2 cups cold water. Submerge for 5 minutes, give it a swish and a rinse. You are mostly looking to dislodge cabbage worms. You can peel and use the stem for stir-fry, slaw, or soup

Acorn Squash -versatile winter squash with a mild, nutty, and slightly sweet flavor. Suitable for both sweet and savory dishes. It can be baked, roasted, pureed, or used as a vessel for stuffing. The skin is edible after cooking, which adds to its fiber content.

Bok Choy – raw or cooked – salads, soups, noodle dishes, steamed, grilled, stir-fried, or braised.

Daikon Radish – see vegetable directory – Daikon Radish
