From the field

We are very thankful for the sunshine! It’s a hot one this week. We have gone from muddy slop to irrigating to keep plants from wilting in the scorching sun. The sunshine is actually helping a lot of plants this week. The potatoes have started to sprout through the soil. We have caught up on most plantings now. We are still transplanting and direct seeding weekly. We will have snow peas when we return from the delivery break. This week, you will receive the first cutting from the tops of the basil plants. This will help stimulate their branching growth so we can have full bushy basil plants. The tomatoes are looking great. We can’t wait to eat that first fresh tomato sandwich!

Quick Tips:

We prefer to steam our greens. After steaming, a little spritz of lemon juice or lime-infused olive oil (Crystal City Olive Oil) and a little salt and pepper.

You can also pesto just about any greens. Pesto can be frozen in tablespoon portions, ice cubes. Once frozen store in a container or baggie in the fridge. Pop in a flavor bomb with sautéed veggies, or into pasta or rice. See the Basil page in the vegetable directory for pesto basics

We give most veggies a rinse at the farm. We do recommend that you wash again at home.
