Vegetable Directory

For more information about the above items, you can find storage and usage tips on the Vegetable Directory. This can be found from the menu on the website or the link above.

Quick Tips – When you get your greens home it helps to store them in the fridge with the bag puffed with air. This helps keep your greens fresh longer. You could even add a paper towel to help maintain proper moisture. They should be washed at home also. Lettuce will decay if too wet and wilt if too dry. Lettuce was given a rinse the kale was not. Fresh Garlic – just pulled from the ground not dried. Summer squash – we love ours on the grill — sliced thick or in half and marinated in balsamic/olive oil with salt and pepper. Cherry/grape tomato – store on the counter for better flavor. They will continue to ripen so watch them closely. If you do need to refrigerate, (not recommended) allow coming to room temp before eating. Eggplant – the first of the season. Also another great one for the grill. It must be cooked and will take on any flavor you choose. Excellent choice to add to curry dishes or ratatouille. Basil – does not like extreme cold storage. Scallions– not going to eat them this week? Just slice thin and put them in a ziplock baggie in the freezer. Then you can grab a handful whenever you need some. Peppers can also be seeded sliced/diced/chopped and put in a baggie in the freezer without blanching.

Please look back to the previous week’s archived posts if you missed them. Also, find info in the vegetable directory. As always — if you have any questions –please feel free to ask – text or email too.

Farm Update: We did receive almost an inch of rain. It helps but we could definitely use some more

Farm EventsAre you interested in attending the Garlic Harvest? If so, please let me know by email or text.

You must RSVP to attend this event. Please email or text

Due to social distancing requirements, we have made adjustments. It will not be our usual type of event. We will not have food and beverages. Please bring your own water and a snack if you would like. We will have clean garden gloves on hand or you can bring your own. You also should wear footwear that can get dirty and keep your feet safe – no sandals. You must have a mask available to wear when unable to maintain distance. We have plenty of hand sanitizer. We will be working outside and keep a distance between household groups. Please do not bring your pets or small children to this event. We are planning to dig garlic from 9-11 and then we will bundle and hang it to dry from 11-12. If you would like to come work with us we need to know ahead of time to have enough shovels to spread everyone out with. Thanks.

We have our annual farm events scheduled. We will decide at a later date if they will go on depending on how the current distancing requirements evolve. These events are held outside for CSA members and their families.
