Quick Tips – This week -tomato, pepper, squash, eggplant, and beans can all be cooked together for an awesome dish of curry, stirfry, or saute. Tomato – The first of the heirloom tomatoes are going in the shares this week. We will do our best to send them home before they are fully ripe. However, sometimes that is not possible. Please store on the unrefrigerated for better flavor. They will continue to ripen so watch them closely. If you do need to refrigerate, (not recommended) allow coming to room temp before eating. Overripe or any tomato is an excellent addition to the pan when sauteing or simmering beans, squash, eggplant Eggplant – will absorb whatever flavor you use. It does not need to be salted and peeled as all of the eggplants we grow are smaller varieties. We like to add ours to stirfry dishes, curry, and marinate to grill. Globe eggplant- slice 1/4″ lengthwise on mandoline if you have one, marinate in a little balsamic vinegar, olive oil, smoked paprika, black pepper, and a dash of liquid smoke. (same can be done with summer squash). After grilling the eggplant can be stored in the fridge and added to sandwiches cold – if you don’t eat it all right away!! The Japanese eggplant (purple and black) can be sliced in little rounds and cooked with sausage seasonings for a great pizza topping. Dill- we sent these dill flowers home for you to use in a jar of quick pickles. Did you know that it only takes about 3 cucumbers for a pint of pickles? Other great additions to your pickle jar would be a clove of garlic, hot pepper slices, red pepper flakes, peppercorns. Here is a link from one of my favorite websites to help you out with your quick pickling adventure How to Quick Pickle.

Farm Update: We had a wonderful Garlic Harvest Event on Saturday. Thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a success. Everyone that attended was in a group from their own household. We were all able to socially distance and harvest together for a fun but HOT morning. All of the garlic is now hanging to dry and cure in the barn. It smells fantastic in there!

Farm Events — We are not sure if we will hold the Potato Harvest Event this season. We will decide shortly. Due to the lack of rain, we are not expecting a stellar harvest this season. We will let you know as soon as we decide. This would also be a “work only” event and we will not be serving food just like the garlic harvest.
We have our annual farm events scheduled. We will decide at a later date if they will go on depending on how the current distancing requirements evolve. These events are held outside for CSA members and their families.
SAVE THE DATE:
Saturday, June 27th – Celebrate the Season – CANCELLED
Saturday, July 18th – Glorious Garlic Harvest – 9-12 – SUCCESS!!!
Saturday, August 8th – Can You Dig It? #2 – Potato Harvest 10-2
Saturday, October 17th – Gratitude Gathering 1-6
Thank you for supporting our small farm!
