Fall crops – cabbage, kale, broccoli, turnips, rutabaga, collards
Fall crops are coming in with or without fall temperatures. It is quite a heat wave we have been having. Hard to believe we grumbled about rain and flooding earlier in the season.  A nice spritz of rain would be wonderful. We  took a peek at the sweet potatoes and they seem to be coming along nicely. The 2nd planting of corn is ready and you will see some this week.
Possibilities for Week #14Mountain Rose Potato, Fingerling Potato, Delicata Squash, Sweet Corn, Summer Squash (yellow, zucchini, patty pan), Kale (Dinosaur, Red Russian, Siberian), Swiss Chard, Bok Choy, Collard Greens, Arugula, Onion (Red, Yellow, White), Garlic, Basil, Parsley, Tomato – Heirloom, Peppers (Bell, Frying, Mini Swee, Hot), Eggplant

Items and quantities vary between Small and Large Share and decisions are made daily.

Kale Idea – This afternoon Joe and I had a quick kale salad. Way too hot to heat up the kitchen. Super easy, super quick.  Pull leaves from stems, rub between your hands ( I think this is what they call massaged in fancy restaurants). This softens up the kale leaves for your salad and then tear into bite sized pieces. Chop stems into thin pieces for added crunch in your salad. We added diced peppers and sliced onion and raw cashews.

Organic Coffee – place your orders with Seneca Sunrise Coffee for us to deliver to your CSA pick up. You can now order and pay online. Please let them know you want it delivered with your CSA share.

Large Garlic bulbs are back this week. Joe has sorted through the dried garlic and reserved our seed for next season. This means we can release the big bulbs to you again. Enjoy! We had a decent harvest this season. We did have losses due to flooding, but we really can’t complain. Here is what the garlic looks like after it is dried and then after it is cleaned up for you. Basically, we trim the roots and brush off the outer paper layer.
