Looks like the final heat wave is over and we have officially entered the fall season. SAVE THE DATE: Our Open House at the farm is Saturday, Oct. 17th 12-4 PM. Visit us at the farm, join our CSA for the 2016 season and save 10%. We will provide seasonal snacks and beverages. We hope you will join us. We will show you around and you can see where your veggies are grown.
We have started to harvest the sweet potatoes and they are looking great. They will need to cure so you will see them in your shares in a few weeks.
Possibilities for Week#16 – Broccoli, Kohlrabi, Green Cabbage, Turnip, Kale, Swiss Chard, Greens Mix (Arugula, Baby Chard, Baby Lettuce, Mustard Greens), Radish, Red Onion, Garlic, Spaghetti Squash, Peppers, Potato, Sweet Corn, Summer Squash
There are some new items you’ll see in your shares. Not sure what to do or you need some inspiration – here are some tips and recipe links for you. Lots of possibilities for your meals this week.
Spaghetti Squash – We like to bake ours, scoop it out and bake casserole style in a dish after mixing with fresh pressed garlic, tomato sauce, Parmesan cheese and maybe some extra cheese on top till bubbly. Follow this link for even more ideas lots of pictures on how to cook and prepare spaghetti squash
Kohlrabi – yeah it is weird looking, very versatile can be eaten raw, roasted, sauteed, boiled. Great link on how to cut it up
Cabbage – this link has a wealth of information about cabbage and how to use it. One of my favorite websites. The recipe ideas are all the way at the bottom
Turnip – our favorite is roasted or mashed, link has 4 easy recipe ideas
Radish – raw or cooked – they are not just for salads – stir fry, roasted – radish looses its spiciness after cooking
The greens mix can be eaten as a salad or slightly wilted in a saute – spiciness fades in arugula and mustard greens after cooking
For those of you that don’t follow us on Facebook we harvested these a few weeks ago on the farm and wanted to share the love with you too!
