Everyone is excited to get this season going!

QUICK TIPS: Here are a few tips if you are not familiar with the items in your share this week –  When cooking greens, do not over cook. You want them to just lightly wilt. They will get a brighter green.  Mustard -spicy – do not put these in your green smoothies; if you are not fond of spicy – cook them the spiciness fades ; Radish – they go great in a stir-fry or raw in slaw, don’t like the spiciness of radish – cook them; Hakurei turnip -mild – eat raw in salads/slaws, or cooked saute, stir fry, roasted. Bok Choy – raw or cooked, excellent in salad and works well in smoothies. Rhubarb – so many optionstart, sweet or savory; excellent as sweetened sauce over ice cream, biscuits, or even savory with meat. Lettuce Mix and baby lettuce heads – save money and have control of your ingredients- make your own salad dressing -see the directory; I recommend sunflower oil- it does not solidify in the fridge and is mild in flavor.

Rhubarb is not just for pie – Take a look at the vegetable directory for infinite possibilities. Check out our feature recipe of the week RHUBARB BARS – it is a family favorite!

You will find recipes, tips and inspiration in the vegetable directory follow the links on each veggie above. We have a Pinterest Page and have organized all of the veggies we grow onto boards. We have chosen these carefully over the past few years.

If you ever have any questions about what to do with your veggies, don’t hesitate to ask!

CROP BOX NOTE: We have been informed from our supplier of “crop boxes” that they will not be able to fulfill our order of new boxes this season and won’t be back in stock until 2020.  We have had to make some adjustments with the boxes we have on hand. Some of you will receive shares in the “large boxes” from last season. Some of you will receive shares in cardboard waxed boxes (please return these as well). Some of you will receive shares in paper bags. Our supply of boxes is even tighter than last season. If your share is delivered in a crop box – it must be returned weekly and only used for your veggies. If you forget your box you will need to take your share home in paper bag. I always have some on hand. Lost and/or damaged crop boxes will incur a $20 fee.

Veggie Notes:  We do give your veggies a rinse at the farm – however we do recommend a second wash at home as necessary.  Decisions on rinsing is made at time of harvest and the effect it will have on your produce. Some items just store better unwashed. We do not use pesticides; therefore, it is possible that you find inhabitants in your produce. We try to restrict our plastic usage. The bags that you receive are recyclable at grocery store drop offs.

FARM NEWS: We have been busy catching up after all of the rain.  We have a photo gallery this season on the website. Check it to see what we have been doing and how things are looking around here. You can find it in on the website in the menu.
