When you arrive we will have complimentary coffee provided by Seneca Sunrise Coffee and a light seasonal snack prepared for you. We will discuss how we grow potatoes on our farm. Then it is off to the field to dig some potatoes. After the harvest, we will enjoy some seasonal food samples where potatoes are the focus and sample some cask ale from a local brewery. We will conclude with a farm tour so you can ask questions and see where and how all of your CSA veggies are grown.
Bradley of Seneca Lake Brewing Company will be here to tell you about his brewery and have tasting samples. You can stop by The Beerocracy – our local pub – after the event.
Quick Tips : We are moving into ratatouille season. Eggplant varieties that we grow do not need to be peeled and salted before eating. Eggplant is basically neutral in flavor and will take on any seasoning you give it – italian, curry, spicy, smokey…. The globe shaped eggplant are excellent sliced with a mandoline and grilled (marinate in balsamic-same as summer squash). We also like to dice or slice and saute in sausage type seasonings (fennel, garlic, red pepper flakes, onion, smoked paprika) to add to rice or quinoa and even on top of pizza.
Jalapeno peppers can be seeded, chopped and frozen for use later. If you freeze chopped peppers flat in a baggie you can break off a piece when you want to add a little spice.
See vegetable directory for further details…………..Enjoy your week!
